CLOCK TOWER

This Clock Tower was erected in memory of the coronation of King George V. The tower is also dedicated to the 22 soldiers who went to fight from this town during the 1st World War (1914-1919). Out of this, 14 soldiers died in this war.

Church of South India

It comes under the Churches of South India. It is one of the biggest Church. The RCA (Reform Church of America) came to North Arcot District and established the church. The Church is nearly 150 years old. Previously this Church was in the Filterbed Road. The British soldiers who died during the Sepoy Mutiny are buried in the vicinity of this church. The church is given authorization by the British Government to maintain this graveyard.

MOSQUE INSIDE THE FORT

The Mosque inside the fort is protected by the A.S.I. It was built in 1750 and constructed of granite stones with mortar, on three sides. At present it is not used for worship and the gates of the mosque are closed. It is rectangular in shape. On the front side it is plastered with lime and bricks. The Hindu architecture slowly yielded place to the flourishing Muslim architecture which is evident in the form of innumerable mosques and palaces which are Indo-Saracenic style.

MADARAZAYE MOHAMMADIYA MASJID

Another important monument of attraction is that of the Mosque of Nawab Chanda Sahib. It was built in 1750 A.D. The entrance of the masjid is on the Northern side. At the top of the structure, provision is made for the speakers. On all the four sides of the structure it is decorated with arch shapes. It is constructed with brick and lime. Pillars are constructed in two lines, inner and outer and each row has four pillars. The outer pillars are smaller in height in comparison with the pillars inside.

For performing Namaz, on the Western side a large prayer hall or courtyard of about fifteen feet in breadth and forty feet in length was constructed. On the back to it lies the Mehrab. The devotees has to worship before this Mehrab and on the right hand side to it lies a platform for the Imam to perform the worship. The pillars found in the mosque are about two and a half feet in breadth on the facing side and about a feet in the sides. On the southern end of the mosque there are flight of steps which lead to the upper part of the mosque. At the centre of the mosque there is a big dome and on the sides there are minars. The minors on the northern and southern sides are very big and minors behind the dome is very small. There are floral designs in the smaller pillars.

MUTHU MANDABAM

Muthu Mandabam was inaugurated on 01.07.1990 by the then Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Mr. M. Karunanidhi. Vikrama Raja Singhan, the last Tamil ruler to rule Kandy (Sri Lanka) was originally named Kannuswamy. He belonged to the Nayak dynasty of Madurai. The Britishers fought with him for 16 years from 1815 and Vikrama was arrested and imprisoned in the Vellore fort jail. He died in 1832. Only in 1983 his cemetery was found. In his memory the MUTHU MANDABAM was established here in Vellore. His samadhi was erected by his son, A. Vikrama Raja Singham on 27.07.1832.

There are six cemetry of which three have their names written on it. One of them is the cemetry of Vikrama Raja Singhan. To the right of it is the samadhi of his great grand son, Thiru C.K. Narasimhala Raja who died on 08.10.1948. To the left is the samadhi of great grand daughter Sow. Raualakshmi Devi, wife of Shri. V. Rangarajah (direct great grant son of the last ex-king of Ceylon who died at Tanjore on 09.03.1944).

The Govt. of Tamil Nadu was appreciated for preserving the truth of the last Tamil king of Ceylon. The building construction was started on 20.04.1990 and was finished on 01.07.1990.

VICTORIA JUBLIEE TOWER

This tower was erected for the great Empress Queen Victoria on her jubilee by the people of Vellore town in 1887.

POOMALAI VANIGA VALAGAM

This was started on 23.08.2000. Poomalai Vaniga Valagam is for handicrafts works mainly for rural women. They bring their handicraft works and sell here for considerable amount. The products sold here are embroidered clothes, glass paintings, beautiful dolls, gifts articles, perfumes, incense sticks, medicinal herbs, pickles and other kitchen items. They also export palm leaf articles. It supports numerous women who are able to earn a living without depending on others.
